006 | The Joint Effort: A Mom's Guide to Cannabis and Equity in the Industry with Courtney Davis of Marijuana Matters
Using Cannabis for Insomnia, Sleep, and Optimism for the Future of Cannabis
Now that cannabis is legal in some states medically or recreationally, there are things that my guest Courtney Davis and the team at Marijuana Matters work hard in the background to create equity in the cannabis industry and repair the harms caused by the war on drugs.
Courtney Davis is the Executive Director of Marijuana Matters, a social enterprise that works to identify and eliminate barriers to economic opportunity in regulated cannabis markets for those disadvantaged by marijuana’s criminalization. She recently served as the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations where she led community and government outreach efforts to advance equitable and inclusive cannabis policies and regulations.
Courtney discusses her personal experience with cannabis, including using it to treat insomnia and her preferred methods of consumption. She also talks about the work she does to support veterans and the future of the cannabis industry, including the opportunities it presents and the challenges it faces.
We discuss ways to support the equality efforts just in the products we consume and we discuss our optimism for our kids to grow up in an environment where cannabis is looked at as medicine.
Topics Discussed:
Cannabis for insomnia
Repairing the harm from the war on drugs
Working to bring equity in a new industry
Provide opportunities for communities to participate in the industry and free from criminalization
